Our Research

Sports Cardiology Toronto has a world-class research team that is cross-disciplinary, including leading experts from the fields of exercise physiology and cardiology.

Our research addresses the impact of exercise on heart health in healthy athletes, and individuals with known or previously undiagnosed cardiovascular conditions.

Our research examines the impact of long-term exercise on heart health, the physiology of cardiovascular adaptations to exercise and distinguishing healthy physiological and pathology cardiac remodeling. Additional studies the underlying mechanisms that may contribute to adverse cardiac outcomes associated with exercise, from arrhythmias to sudden cardiac death. Our group is also actively involved in the development of recommendations for cardiovascular screening of athletes.

Research Projects:

This study will determine if the risk of AF relates to the quantity of exercise performed by those who have have performed high volume intensive exercise for many years.
